"The terror, which would not end for another twenty-eight years--if it ever did end--began, so far as I can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain." So IT begins and the most innocent of events leads to the start of the nightmare for seven children in Derry, Maine. Fast forward 20 something years and they've all grown up, grown apart and, for the most part, managed to put the past behind them. Then one shocking murder later and they are all drawn back to Derry, and the nightmare begins again.
This is a great story about childhood fears and how they come back to haunt you when you least expect it. Although the childish fears seem very real, it's easy to see how the adults have put their youthful adventures behind them. Amazingly, King manages to capture the dual qualities of the main character's - the adult cynicism and the youthful acceptance that things are not as they seem to near perfection.
I don't hesitate to recommend this to fans of horror/thriller fiction.
