about Alexander McCall Smith 2007-03-27 07:34:04

Due to the books that take place in Botswana, it prompted me to visit the country in January 2007. I was enthralled by the culture through Smith's descriptions. I have loved reading all of that series.

The book "44 Scotland Street" was a series first published in an Edinburgh newspaper. Smith is now living in that city. l did not find this book as interesting as the Botswana series, but still interesting. Having been to Edinburgh twice, it was interesting to find places and events described.

about Donna Leon 2007-03-27 07:27:25

This American author has lived in Venice for a number of years. Her knowledge of the city is incredible and it shows through her writing. I feel transported to the city with each book and feel like I know the characters intimately. I only wish they would invite me for one of their meals.

about Jostein Gaarder 2007-03-27 07:23:46

This is a Norwegian author whose books have been translated into numerous languages. I read "The Solitaire Mystery" first and was hooked on his style. He combines psychology, philosophy, and mystery into each book.

about Patricia Schonstein 2007-03-27 07:13:57

This South African author's work is as diverse as the country she lives in. Each book is different from the others, but all are luxuriously rich in detail and drama. All of them are page turners that will not let themselves sit on the bedside stand without your undivided attention.
