sometimes a great notion is one of my favorite books. it is set in a small logging community in oregon, beautifully described so that you can almost feel the dampness. each character is developed uniquely and richly- so much that each could have his own novel.

my dad wrote some really funky stories about la la land. if you like stylized murder mysteries based in la with lots of scandalous tidbits written in the tone of a 50s boozer detective, you might like them. one's dedicated to me and i love them because my dad wrote them.
