This is a British writer, and COVER THE BUTTER is absolutely delightful. If you liked the movie Shirley Valentine, you'd most likely enjoy this book. The audiobook is especially wonderful!

Born in Bolton in the United Kingdom, Carrie Kabak has lived in South Wales, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, and the West Midlands. She also spent some time in Southern Ireland and France. She now lives in Kansas City, Missouri with her medical illustrator husband, who is also a cook.
hey share five sons, two labradors, two cats, two cockatiels and a turtle. After graduating from Cardiff University with a Bachelor of Education degree, Carrie taught French and English. While raising her children, she was a freelance designer. When she moved to the United States, she illustrated books for a short spell, was a Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators featured artist, and the Writers’ Digest magazine commented that her graphics were “outstanding—her artwork fits the story like a well-designed glove.” Carrie is now a full time writer and part time designer for publicity companies in the USA and Canada.
Cover the Butter was published in June 2005 by Dutton, NAL, Archipel, Piatkus, Gruner and Jahr and Books on Tape, was a Book Sense pick, and received an Earphones Award. Every Mole and Freckle will appear in A Body for All Seasons, published by Seal Press. Tarts and Sinners is almost finished, (YAY!!!) and Ebby Molloy and Pikey! are works-in-progress. Carrie enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. Her hobbies are watching films and BBC dramas, listening to jazz and lots of other music too, painting canvas and walls, making curtains, cooking French stuff and drinking good wine.
