Leon Edel was born in PA in 1907, died in 1997. He is considered the foremost 20th c. authority on the life and works of Henry James. His five-volume bio of James, Life of Henry James, won the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award in 1963. In 1985, Edel's single volume bio was published, Henry James: A Life. Edel was a professor of English and American literature at NYU.
