I read somewhere that Chuck Palahniuk never throws away a piece of information. He has filing cabinets full of miscellaneous trivia at home and will spend rainy afternoons checking, categorising and researching.
It shows in his writing.
This is a good thing by the way. He brings together so many disparate subjects and little snippets of information it is very difficult to ever get bored.
Where to start? I would suggest Survivor. Possibly because it's the first one I ever read, but I would say it is fairly accessible to all.

I think any of the first four books would be a good start; they are all amazing. Survivor got me hooked, and Choke is my favorite. Many readers agree that Haunted is Palahniuk's worst fiction. It's certainly weird, and not in a good way, though it has a few excellent stories. I couldn't make it through Stranger Than Fiction.
