I loved this series so much. I started reading them when I was eight or nine. Although my favorite is Little Town on the Prairie, I would recommend starting with Little House in the Big Woods. The only one I didn't care for was By the Shores of Silver Lake.

The best place to begin is with the first book, Little House In The Big Woods, but if you're planning to read only one of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, read The Long Winter, which is really dramatic.

Between the books On the Banks of Plum Creek and By the Shores of Silver Lake you might consider reading Old Town in the Green Groves by Cynthia Rylant.
