I began reading Dan Brown's books because my children read them and said not to be influenced by the media hyp. I read Da Vinci Code first then Angels and Demons. I was hooked. I had to get the other two novels. In my opinion, I think Deception Point should have been the next movie! I cannot wait for his next book. He is an excellent story teller. Once he has set the stage for the reader, it is as if he has reached out, grabbed you and pulled you in to the pages.

I truely recommend Deception Point as the first read. I did not read the books in the order written and I dont think one needs to. Just pick a book and start! you won't regret it and you will have your own opinon of the best book he wrote.

I actually read 'Deception Point' first, and I loved it. I thought that Dan Brown was going to be one of those authors to keep an eye on. The next one I read was 'Digital Fortress', which wasn't too bad either.

But for some reason, I couldn't stomach either 'Angels' or 'Da Vinci' - both are still languishing on my bookshelf as I've been unable to get beyond the first 3 or 4 chapters in either of them.

However, I do intend to tackle them at some point in the future, just so that I can see if the hype was true for myself!

It really goes to show how different readers have different opinions. I personally very much enjoyed both The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons (and it seems most people either love them or don't), but then was very disappointed in Deception Point, which I felt was very much a typical, run-of-the-mill type thriller and just didn't hold my interest like the other two.
