Out el Kouloub was a 20th century Egyptian writer. She was a member of the aristocracy and lived in self-imposed exile after the overthrow of the monarchy by Nasser. She wrote in French. Her novels and short stories focus mostly on the lives of women and their struggles to reconcile traditional roles with their desire to embrace modernity and achieve personal freedom.
