Leon Uris had the wonderful skill of bringing historic periods and events to life. It is difficult to recommend one above the others. The three that stand out slightly above the others are: Exodus, Trinity, and Armageddon for their potency in shedding light on history. Having said that, though, I'd highly recommend reading all of them eventually.
